March Edition: 3 Months down, 9 Months to go...If you want a New Year's Baby, Better get to work.

I can't believe how FAST March flew by. April is here and that mean rainy season is upon us here is Florida. It makes me sad and kind of excited at the same time. Sad because rain here isn't like normal rain. When it rains here it's like a monsoon. Where my office is, is a known flood zone. At least a couple times a year some roads will be shut down due to the rain. I'm excited because I can see the beach from my office and I get to watch the beauty of nature and watch storms roll in over the water. I am totally weird.

Some highlights from this month:

  • Re-launching of Presently Blonde to Balancing in Heels
  • Balancing in Heels has 6 post a week. (M,T,W,TH, F and Sun)
  • A YouTube Channel is in the works. Stay tuned
  • I am on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Follow me!
  • And I love you all!
Now if you missed any post from this month here they are all wrapped up in a nice little bow! Enjoy!

Bold Spring Lips - From the Drugstore.

1 | 2 | 3 | 4

I love a good bold lip. Especially in spring. I think it just always adds an extra POP to whatever you're wearing. But the good thing about lipsticks is now drugstore brands are upping their game and not breaking the bank with pricing. A couple weeks ago I took a little trip down to my local Ulta (shout out to all my Estero Ulta girls!!)... Ok let's be honest, I make weekly trips to Ulta like it's my job. It's a problem. But as I was walking through I ended up in what I call the drugstore makeup side, I started looking at lipsticks and swatching my hands and fell in love with a few shades. The best part of all this? All these lip colors are under $6.00! Amazing. I got four lipsticks for less than the price of one YSL.

Drugstore brands have been upping their lip game in terms of quality and lasting. Maybelline just come out with a 14-hour lipstick that I am itching to try. But the colors are a little Fall-ish. More neutrals and deep colors. And I am all about being bright right now.

I hope this little guide helps you get some ideas and gives you a little boost to try some new lip colors from the drugstore! Thanks for stoping by!

[Sadly the lighting I was in didn't reflect well on my lips. SO I made swatches for you guys!]

Well that weekend went by too fast. Here we are and it's Monday.... Sigh. I bought this vest last spring and I love it. I literally wear it all the time. Utility vest will never go out of style. It such a great statement piece to have. I have a tendency to wear this just with different dresses I have. I think I am going to have to style this with a pair of jeans and shorts sometime this summer! OH IDEA! P.S. How gorg are is this yellow tree behind me? In our neighborhood they are everywhere and they just bloomed this week! Ahh Spring is here!

Fun little fact! The ring I am wear was my mothers old wedding ring!

Sunday Edition: I'll be the Biggest Beach with a Golden Brown Tan.

It's March and it's 85 degrees here is South Florida. Perfect opportunity to work on my Spring tan... And an amazing excuse to get sun, pack a lunch and spend some time with CJ at Lover Key. Yes the name of this State Park is Lovers Key. How romantic is that! But in reality it was 65 degrees and winds of 20 mph... So we ate lunch on the beach then headed home. Hopefully next weekend we can try again. I hope your weekend was more eventful than ours! Happy Sunday!

Friday Five

[At the end of Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World in Orlando]

I am so HAPPY it is Friday. I've never been so tired. But that is probably a lie! There is not a big enough coffee in the world to help my exhaustion this week. But tomorrow I will sleep in, get a facial, work on some posts for next week and relax. CJ and I may even hit the beach or the pool at some point during the weekend. Things will be changing around Balancing in Heels. Ya'll have said you want more fashion posts, makeup posts and videos. I want you guys to know that I hear you and it it coming! Yay! Happy Friday!

Necklace: Chloe + Isabel (similar here) | Hair: Bellami | Bracelets: Alex & Ani

I love this combo. It is one of those looks that you can wear to work and transition into a night out. I honestly love to play in my closet, this was on one of this I felt like playing mornings. I'm obsessed with this skirt from Piperlime, and if you don't know they are sadly closing their online shopping doors. My online shopping heart was shattered when I heard this. But it also means there will be a huge sale sometime before they close.

I think everyone should have a jean button down in there wardrobe. I have three. They are so versatile and can be worn in every season. I do have a lighter one for spring and summer. It's unbelievable that March is almost over and April will be here. I better enjoy the Florida sunshine before the rains start coming!

Weekly Wish List: AEO Smock Crop Top

Listen, I am no teenybopper. So I tend to shy away from the crop top craze. I have one that I bought from Hollister Co. last summer for my cruise. They are excellent to throw over a bikini top and go. But I could never bring myself to just wear a crop top out with some jeans. Let's be realistic, I am in my late twenties, I should not be wearing crop tops out in public..... Until I saw this little beauty at AEO.

It's description says crop top, but it only has what I call a peek-a-boo waist line. If you where a teenager in the early 00's you know what I'm talking about. Before the crop tops we all wore shirt and tops a size smaller to have a peek-a-boo of our waist line.... Yes it was a thing. And yes I wore them all the freaking time.

I really love this top for two reason. One: It is really not a crop top. Two: It has the peasant/Mexican/Boho vibe to it. Obsessed. Just waiting for this little baby to go on sale and then she will be all mine! I hate buying things full price. Just not my style.

More peasant tops I LOVE!

Spring Trend Report: Brush Your Shoulder's Off

Spring is here! YAY! I love spring colors. Living in Florida we have two seasons here... hot and hotter. There is no in between. So shorts and tank are always a must in my wardrobe. But bright colors are put away in my storage bags in my closet. And since Friday was the official first day of spring, it's time to put away the dark and drab!

A HUGE trend I have been noticing is the off the shoulder tops. I am loving this boho look. Especially if its made of white lace, knit or crochet. OMG I literally may die. ASOS seems to have the biggest selection at the most reasonable price. I can't wait to buy one and pair it with my distressed jean short! How cute would it be to have a headband around my forehead!! AHH!

Sunday Edition: I'm probably at Disney right now... #SorryNotSorry

Another week went by and another Sunday Edition. I literally have not been home the last two weekends. And my house is a mess. Poor CJ and my puppies. But I am with my mom this weekend at Disney having some fun. This is our yearly little girls weekend to the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival. And when this trip comes around it usually means it's almost time for my mom to head back north for the rest of the year. Sad face. But I will have a recap of our trip (maybe a video as well) next week! Enjoy your weekend ya'll!

Friday Five

[Just because I LOVE Disney and Olaf!]

As one of my Great Aunt's use to say on the first day of spring "Happy Easter, Happy Spring, Happy (curse word that starts with F and ends with ing) Everything!". I don't know why I remember that. She just always said it and it kind of stuck. Probably cause curse words are cool to a 7 year old. But I hope you all had a great week. I am off again this weekend with my mom for her birthday. Be sure to check out my Instagram page to see what I am doing LIVE! Happy Friday! xo

[Loving the view and the size of this medal! Thanks Mark Costa!]

[Very obsessed with this dress! Possible coming into my collection for Spring!]

She was like, Oh My God, this is my song. We've been listenin' to the radio all night long.

Scarf: American Eagle (ASOS similar) | Sunnies: Amazon (Karen Walker similar)
Top: Gap | Jean: J. Crew | Shoes: Chucks | Earring: Target (similar)

Photos by: CJM Photography

I have been feeling so casual lately and dying to wear my chucks. So when it came to shooting this week I just felt I wanted to show something that everyone can wear everyday. I also tried to make it versatile because I know that up north the weather can be a bit of a cluster. One day its 60 degrees the next it's 15 degrees. Cray, cray my friend, cray, cray. Funny little fact about this shoot, I live in south Florida. It was 87 degrees outside when we shot this and people walking by gave me strange looks like "why is this girl wearing a scarf in 85 degree weather?".  I literally can get enough of these J. Crew Jeans and these sunnies, so much that I've been basically living in these two things for weeks. I got these sunnies on Amazon they are an AMAZING alternative to Karen Walkers. I lose sunglasses on the reg so I hardly ever buy expensive sunglasses. But these alternatives look very similar to Karen Walkers.

What have you been currently living/loving lately?

Weekly Wish List: #AllGreenEverthing

Happy St. Patrick's Day! This is a totally crazy holiday to me. I never really understood the whole getting smashed and wearing green skimpy outfits on this day. Totally not my style. Before I started writing this post, I decided to give you some fun facts about St. Patrick's Day! (Check out the whole article at mentalfloss.com)
WE SHOULD REALLY WEAR BLUE
Saint Patrick himself would have to deal with pinching on his feast day. His color was “Saint Patrick’s blue,” a light shade. The color green only became associated with the big day after it was linked to the Irish independence movement in the late 18th century.

SAINT PATRICK WAS BRITISH
Although he made his mark by introducing Christianity to Ireland in the year 432, Patrick wasn’t Irish himself. He was born to Roman parents in Scotland or Wales in the late fourth century.

THE IRISH TAKE SAINT PATRICK’S DAY SERIOUSLY
As you might expect, Saint Patrick’s Day is a huge deal in his old stomping grounds. It’s a national holiday in both Ireland and Northern Ireland.

IT USED TO BE A DRY HOLIDAY
For most of the 20th century, Saint Patrick’s Day was considered a strictly religious holiday in Ireland, which meant that the nation’s pubs were closed for business on March 17. (The one exception went to beer vendors at the big national dog show, which was always held on Saint Patrick’s Day.) In 1970, the day was converted to a national holiday, and the stout resumed flowing.

Now that you have had a little fun fact history lesson about this holiday I decided to do a post all about items that are green that I am DYING for.  Even though we all should really be wear blue (see reason above) I am going to do this post all about green! Enjoy!

Sarasota or Bust! Girls Weekend in Review

Growing up I really never had girlfriends. My sister was the closest female "friend" I had, and at the time we basically tolerated each other at best. The best part is she reads BIH every morning and she is probably laughing right now because she knows it's the truth! Moving on, in college I joined a sorority and really loved that but post college I lost touch with all of my sisters. CJ was really worried about me and told me that I truly needed friends. Little did I know that my best friends where literally right around the corner.
The Sisterhood of the Dark and Twisty is something that a night of wine, bitching about life, husbands, dogs and more wine came about. Oh and we have a tendance to do endurance running. That's just a fancy way of saying we run half marathons so that we don't murder our significant others or go crazy. Claire and Christine have pulled me out of my lowest lows and I know will be there for my highest highs. And who let Claire decide we should do a half marathon in off season?

We started off Saturday morning in the car on our way to Sarasota. This also happens to be Christine's birthday weekend. Which makes this whole girl's weekend extra special. Even though we are running a half marathon (13.1 miles). It's only an hour drive north of where we all live which is nice. We stopped for Starbucks on the way and at Christine's request we stopped by Fit2Run for their GIANT tent sale. And OMG am I glad we did! I purchased some items that where 90% off. Amazing. After we stopped by to pick up our bibs, had some lunch and finally bikini bound with drinks in hand on the beach.
Packet pick up was held at Fit2Run Downtown Sarasota. Fit2Run holds a special place in all of our hearts because we all use to train through there training program and that's how we all became best friends. The swag bag was AMAZING. We not only got our race tech shirt (which went right in my t-shirt blanket bag) and we also got a 10 year anniversary jacket included.

The race went better than expected. With this being my "off season" I didn't train at all for this race. My last race was in January. And I think I ran once since then. We stuck to our 3:1 intervals (3 min run, 1 min walk) which got me through. Final time for 13.1 miles was, well I am not sure because they screwed up my time!

[Photo by our dear running friend Mark Costa!]
I always like to say what the peak of out trip and the pit of our trip was. So here we go!

The Peak: The three of us CAN NOT parallel park to save our life. It started out with Christine trying to parallel Claire's car she got us 65% there. Then I got in the car and got us 95% there. Then Claire got in the car and took use back down to 30%. Finally two older men from New Jersey, who where getting a good 10 min laugh at us came over and parked Claire's car in 2 mins. HILARIOUS!

The Pit: The race was fun, but I don't think this is one that I would do again. The first 6 miles where great and I loved that part of the course. The last 6 miles where horrible. Running against traffic with car toxins was gross. I'm pretty convinced that I got high at one point during the race!

Overall it was a fab weekend with my ladies!
